Mahidol Road and Hai Ya Road located at the intersection of Chiang Mai, the domestic rubbish and sewage generated in slums have caused serious water pollution. Three methods are mainly adopted in terms of canal restoration. The first is to increase the water flow of the canal by replenishing and collecting rainwater, which can flush away some large size rubbish. The purified water can be recycled and used as fountain and landscape water. The second method is the stabilization pond technology, which combines of using variety methods to form a micro-ecosystem by using its own microorganisms to improve the stability of the canal ecosystem. Finally, to planting and place pebbles in river and canal to prevent soil erosion and avoid canalization of river canal.

The site is located in the ancient canal at the site of the ancient city wall in northern Thailand in Chiang Mai. Both sides of the river are illegally occupied by shanty towns. While eroding the land, domestic sewage is directly discharged into the river, making the river water quality worse and losing its original vitality. Therefore, the goal of the design is to liberate the river, restore its self-purification ability and ecological function, and create a habitat for wild animals. In the design process, pollutants are first drained, sewage is collected centrally, sewage treatment tanks are set up by physical control, and pollutants are controlled by filtration. The land treatment system "artificial wetland" is used to improve the ecological environment of the site, and the ecological floating island control method is used to form an aquatic ecosystem using emergent plants. It becomes an effective method of river water purification, and subsequent protection is maintained through comprehensive optimization of water functions and watershed space management.
